The situation
Preparing for a professional certification usually means gathering resources from a dozen places and guessing at what to study first. The Association for Talent Development (ATD, formerly ASTD) is the world's largest association for people who develop talent in the workplace, with members in more than 120 countries and more than 125 chapters.
ATD asked us to refresh all of the learning and preparatory materials for its Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP) certification: updating the existing classroom workshop, creating a virtual classroom version, and designing an asynchronous version.
What we did
We built the refreshed materials across all three formats. Then we addressed what the refresh really needed: one place for anyone interested in certification to start. We created an interactive orientation that pulled ATD's resources together so a candidate could learn about the certification, self-assess their knowledge, decide on next steps, and set a plan for preparing.
What changed
CPLP candidates now have a complete suite of tools for the journey. The interactive guide is a single resource center with everything in a flow that makes sense. A knowledge self-assessment and a learning style preferences diagnostic let each candidate shape the path to their own needs, and preparatory programs are available in several delivery formats.
Candidates begin with a clearer picture of what is ahead, and the tools to earn the credential and keep it.
